My Journey to Becoming a Priestess of Ma'at
The Goddess wasn't a part of my life when I first found Paganism. I was so happy to find out that there was a religion that viewed Nature as sacred that I didn't realize Nature was She of 10,000 names.
A few years later I joined the Fellowship of Isis and at the same time began to learn about Ancient Egypt and their wisdom. What I loved is how they saw the Divine as the One and the Many. Everything and everyone was viewed as part of the body of the Divine.
I began to work with the divine via the many gods or neteru, as the Ancient Egyptians called them. Neteru means natures. The Ancients saw the Divine as individualized in nature.
After training for two years I was ordained as a Priestess of Isis-Sophia along with my husband who is a Priest of Isis and Ra. I was told that Ma'at was mainly a principle and that I needed to pick a deity. Two years ago I followed my heart and rededicated to the goddess Ma'at.
The ordination was 13 years ago. It's been a long journey to discover my true work in the world. Part of that work is being a writer and Science of Mind & Spirit Practitioner. The Priestess part has now come into focus. What I realized is that ever since I was a child I've been concerned with balance and order which is the nature of Ma'at.
As soon as I could walk and climb I would balance on things. Later I would walk the three and half foot high fence my father built. I spent hours on that fence practicing balance.
Fast forward twenty-five years. I was in a ritual that evoked Ma'at and felt the same feeling I had when I walked that fence. For the first time I realized that the stability and balance I was looking for in life was about constant readjustment. I realized that I had been a devotee of Ma'at all my life.
My Priestess work is about supporting others as they bring forth their true selves and work in the world. I believe that life on Earth is out of balance because so many of us are. Part of getting back into balance is being and doing who we are. No more hiding from what is ours to give to the world. As you know, when you ignore your gifts you don’t feel good and all you put forth is negative energy. When you have a lot of people living this way you can see why things are thrown off balance.
The world is a great symphony and we are all unique musicians. When we each play our part, harmony ensues and balance is restored. Let’s play together. Let’s heal ourselves and the world.
